The BJP government is completing three years in office today i.e May 26and that too with aplomb. Being at the eye of intense scrutiny since day 1, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not just been able to silence his critics but has taken several steps to boost the nation’s economy and empower the common people. Although it has also missed out on some fronts, but there are achievements galore.

Social welfare schemes— Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao, Ujwala Scheme, Jan Dhan Yojana have been the commendable achievement of the BJP led NDA government. The Swachh Bharat Movement is not only about building toilets, but also for making Indians aware of the importance and virtues of cleanliness.

It is no wonder that the BJP will sell what sells the most — Narendra Modi. A fest named after the Prime Minister is planned across the country to showcase his achievements of the past three years.

Modi's government got a big thumbs-up for its overall performance in the first three years of its tenure, according to an online survey conducted bytimesofindia.com and its sister sites.

A total 77% of respondents said they rated the Modi government's performance as being 'very good' and 'good'. Almost 84% of those surveyed believed that if elections were held today, the government would equal or better its 2014 Lok Sabha performance. It appears the reason people feel the BJP would equal or better its performance if elections were held today is the 'Modi factor' - the same one considered responsible for the party's wins in recent polls. The poll also showed that Modi's popularity has increased in the last three years.

It is perhaps for the first time in contemporary Indian history that a government that came to power three years ago with a huge popular mandate has not only retained its popularity, but perhaps also improved upon it. The last three years under Prime Minister Narendra Modi have had a transformational quality and, as his government steps into its fourth year, optimism remains undiminished.

Modi has ushered a sense of quiet confidence in the country's destiny. People now believe that it will rapidly ascend the ladder of development under his able leadership. Above all, the country finally has a leader who is a ‘doer’ and on several occasions he has displayed boldness which has added to his personal credibility as a determined leader.

Demonetisation of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 currency notes sent shock waves through the country and many claimed that such a poorly timed (read UP elections) and quixotic decision would turn out to be his Waterloo. However, it won over the lower middle class and large sections of the poor and the landslide victory in UP is a stamp of approval so to say.

Modi's critics, especially what remains of the Congress, have been vocal in claiming that he is great in hype and hoopla but wanting when it comes to concrete achievements. The naysayers point to the economy, allege slow progress overall and jobless growth.

But the general populace seems to think otherwise.
