Eastern Sentinel Arunachal News

For a small state such as Arunachal with  limited economic activities and zero presence of big companies, a government job is the only way out for its unemployed masses. The government itself has routinely expressed the impossibility of accomodating all citizens in state jobs and has urged people to turn to self-employment.

India is simply not creating enough jobs for its young people. Industries that were the seedbeds of jobs, ranging from   textiles, leather, metals, automobiles, transport, are hiring too little or even downsizing their manpower in a struggle to stay afloat. And government jobs are always limited, in any context, central or state.

The Arunachal government has been quite vocal in urging youngsters to turn entrepreneurs and not just become self-employed but also become job generators for others. While the pep talk is most inspiring, there are practical challenges which keep many from becoming one. Not many would-be entrepreneurs with good business ideas have the required fund to begin a business. The quagmire of red-tapism is a massive block when one has to run from pillar to post to get projects approved and loans sanctioned. Start-Ups in Arunachal are mostly self-funded with no assistance from the government which makes a nascent business unable to tide over the initial period to break even. Given this lack of handholding, many perish even before they get a chance.

If the state government is serious it needs to look into the above factors.

There is no dearth of innovative power in our boys and girls, nor there is lack of positive energy. A little more patronage and regular professional guidance by way of workshops and symposia etc from the corporate world will go a long way in giving wings to the youth
