GUWAHATI, Apr 11:
A young girl identified as Neyi Jamoh, a research scholar working on wildlife conservation at Seijosa is reported to be in serious condition after the car in which she was travelling collided with an army truck at Solmara area under Sonitpur district, Assam on Monday morning. She is currently admitted at a Guwahati hospital and is receiving treatment.
Neyi was travelling in an Innova car from Pasighat to Guwahati Airport to fly to Sikkim to submit a presentation on her research. But half way her car collided with a heavy armoured Indian Army Stallion truck of the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry at Solmara area under Sonitpur district Assam.
Speaking to this daily, the victim’s younger brother, Nong Jamoh who rushed to Guwahati after hearing the news claimed that the speeding army truck coming from the opposite direction allegedly knocked the car, where his sister was sitting in the back seat of the car. ‘The driver and my sister’s friend sitting in the front seat miraculously escaped and other passengers were all taken to a local hospital with minor injuries,’ he said adding that eye witnesses at the scene also pelted stones at the truck and tried to raise an alarm.
After the incident she was first rushed to civil hospital at Tezpur. However considering the serious head injuries and fractures to her jaw, eye and body, she was later shifted to Guwahati in serious condition after being referred by the doctor at civil hospital, Tezpur, informed the brother.
Neyi is working in Pakke Tiger Reserve as coordinator in understanding livelihood strategies of people living under reserved forest areas.
