NAHARLAGUN, Mar 20: A one-day awareness camp and free assessment on Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Special Learning Disability, and Down Syndrome was successfully organized by Anya Multipurpose Co-operative Society Ltd. in collaboration with the Superintendent of Police (SP) Office, Naharlagun-Nirjuli.
The event saw the participation of some 60 police personnel, who were sensitised on identifying and appropriately handling individuals with these conditions, particularly in scenarios involving interrogations, missing person cases, investigations, and other law enforcement interactions.
Experts at the program provided valuable insights into autism and hyperactivity disorders, emphasizing behavioural patterns and the best approaches to assist affected individuals. This training is expected to significantly improve police response in cases where special attention is required, ensuring a more compassionate and effective approach in law enforcement.
The initiative highlights the growing importance of inclusive policing, reinforcing the role of law enforcement in fostering an empathetic and supportive community. Authorities have expressed hope that such awareness programs will continue to bridge the gap between law enforcement and individuals with special needs, promoting a more understanding society, a statement by the police said.
