ITANAGAR, Sep 4: Chief Minister Pema Khandu has extended best wishes to all teachers working in the state on the occasion of Teachers’ Day.
As Teachers’ Day is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the first Vice-President of India and the second President of the nation, Khandu recalled an instance when once his students asked Dr Radhakrishnan if he would allow them to celebrate his birthday.
“While he declined any special recognition for himself, Dr Radhakrishnan proposed that students celebrate the day as Teachers’ Day to acknowledge the valuable contributions of teachers to society. Since 1962, September 5 has been observed as Teachers’ Day to pay tribute to his and all teachers’ exceptional contributions to education,” Khandu said in a message this evening.
He particularly hailed teachers imparting quality education – both moral and academic – working in rural and remote areas of Arunachal Pradesh despite lack of basic amenities.
“The sacrifices that our teachers make in Arunachal Pradesh is praiseworthy and incomparable. Generations to come will be ever grateful to them,” he said.
Paying rich tributes to the teachers of yesteryears, Khandu expressed hope that they are doing good in their second innings.
He also congratulated the teachers, who are being conferred with state and national awards for their outstanding contributions in the field of education on the auspicious occasion.
“As grown-ups we make our life. As teachers you make us make ours. Happy Teachers’ Day!” Khandu added.
