Itanagar, Sep 3: An important meeting was convened today by the Deputy Commissioner Capital Itanagar Talo Potom at DK state convention centre, Itanagar to address several pressing civic issues that are impacting the daily lives of residents across the Itanagar Capital Region. The meeting focused on finding solutions to a range of problems affecting the quality of life in the Capital region.
The meeting attended by ZPMs, Corporators, SP Itanagar/ Naharlagun, SP Traffic, Commissioner IMC, Director Housing, HoDs, officers/officials, President AAPSU and team, President ANYA and team, President AAPPTF and team , President IMWA and team and other representatives of Market Welfare Association, Ward members, civil society representatives, PRI members, HGB, GBs and other stakeholders.
Important issues concerning Itanagar Capital Region with regards to haphazard parking, unregulated selling of meat at butcher shops, unauthorized construction etc were discussed.
In response to the increasing traffic congestion and lack of organized parking spaces, the authorities deliberated on the need for designated parking zones and improved traffic management, traffic regulations, and also the need to upgrade parking provisions and the need for multi level parking at few locations, parking provisions for commercial vehicles and removal of construction and other material along the Highway and Sector roads etc.
Regarding the rampant dumping of garbage in public areas and along roadsides which has raised public health concerns, the house said a coordinated approach to waste management, involving stricter penalties for violators is the need of the hour. It was also appealed to the public to handover garbage to the sanitary vehicles/ garbage lifting vehicles only.
On the alarming rise in the use of psychotropic drugs in the region has become a public safety issue, it said a collaborative effort from all the stakeholders is the need of the hour and also to raise awareness about drug abuse prevention, particularly among the youths of the state.
Issue of erratic electricity supply and water shortages faced by many residents was highlighted and measures to be adopted to ensure the continuous availability of these essential services were discussed in detail.
Concerns over food adulteration and medical products, and safety compliance in restaurants and bars were also also discussed and Food Safety officers/drug inspectors were directed to monitor and to carry out regular checking drives to ensure the quality of the products and also to keep a check on meat vendors who are to be strictly monitored to ensure that the items are sold while following all the SOPs on hygiene and health.
The DC stressed that Public cooperation, along with timely government action, will be critical in improving the overall living conditions within the Capital Itanagar.
